Moody Hill off-road trail, June 2025

My trail notes… This was a Mountaineers ride on Sunday June 22nd, 2025. Part of the group started at the King Soopers parking lot at the northern end of Fort Collins at 9AM and met up with the rest of the group in Masonville around 9:30 AM. We were part of the group that met up in Masonville. From Masonville, we drove to the Moody Hill trailhead and aired down our tires. This was our first trail in Colorado in our new 2025 Wrangler and the first trail we did in our 2025 Wrangler after getting a lift and larger tires. We took it on two trails in Moab in its stock configuration before this ride. We had done Moody Hill once previously in our 1997 Wrangler.

We split into two groups. Group one had approximately 12 vehicles. Group two, which we were part of, had seven Jeep Wranglers and stopped to do some trail work on one of the spur roads that led to a campsite area. This involved clearing trees from the roads – using chainsaws, a winch and snatch block, and some muscle! Group two included Mike, Michelle, Cave, Chloe, Pat, Jonathan, David, Anne, Luke, Lee, and myself.

We briefly met up again with group one near the quarry as they were leaving. We stayed for a while as some of the members drove on the obstacles, while others watched, talked, and ate lunch. After a while, we continued along Moody Hill to complete the trail, aired our tires back up, and headed home. The weather conditions were great – a little warm and sunny maybe, but not too windy, and no rain. The main trail was in good-ish condition – passable in a stock Jeep, with some rocky sections and some sections made more difficult from erosion.
