Sevenmile off-road trail, June 2025

My trail notes while things are fresh in my head…

This was a Larimer County Four Wheel Drive Club “work-day” ride on June 7th, 2025 to inspect and clear the trail with the Forest Service. We arrived at the Sevenmile trailhead at 9 am and started the trail around 9:30 am. We also completed about 1/3 of Bald Mountain, plus an unnamed offshoot trail on Bald Mountain for a while until it became impassible. Mike led the ride in his Jeep Wrangler JL, followed by four other Jeeps and the Forest Service Ford F150 driven by Wesley, with Bjorn as his passenger. I was riding with my son Lee in our new 2025 Jeep Wrangler JL. This was our first off-road trail in this vehicle in Colorado (our first trails in it were in Moab, Utah the previous week). There was one other JL – Michelle, one JK – Ken, and one TJ – Nick and Joe.

We cleared numerous trees and did a small amount of shovel work to help drain a large puddle that had formed on the trail. Sevenmile and the “official” section of Bald Mountain we did were in good shape – easily passable by the forest service F150. We stopped at the section of Bald Mountain just where it started to get rocky (mostly for time considerations). Lee and I had done Sevenmile before in our TJ, but this was our first time on Bald Mountain.

After the ride, Lee and I stopped at the old Manhattan graveyard to check on a geocache he placed nearby. Then we stopped at the Glen Echo Resort restaurant on the way back to eat a late lunch.

During the ride, it was a beautiful, warm (lower 60s) sunny day. There were a few clouds and it got a little breezy at times – alternating between t-shirt and sweater weather. Sevenmile is my favorite trail in the area. It’s very green, mellow, and crosses the creek at several points. It is not a very technical trail, but it is very scenic.
